Join our Votes at 16 Campaign Group!

Would you like to be part of a group of young people who change the law so that young people in Northern Ireland get to vote from the age of 16, like their peers in Scotland and Wales?  We are recruiting a Votes at 16 Campaign group from across Northern Ireland. If you’re under 18 and interested in Votes at 16 and would like to receive training and support as a campaigner, we would love to hear from you.

In Scotland 16- and 17-year-olds have been able to vote in Council and Scottish Parliament elections (and referenda) since 2014.  In Wales they have been able to vote in Council and Welsh Assembly elections since 2021.  We want to introduce these rights in Northern Ireland and to do so we want to build a youth-led campaign to get people talking about the issue and to ask our politicians to ensure that the Northern Ireland Assembly can pass legislation to give you these rights.  

As part of our campaign team, we will teach you about the impact that Votes at 16 has had in other countries, especially in Scotland and Wales, and will offer you training in debating, doing media interviews as well as talking to politicians and others.  There will be events residentials, and visits to help us understand the issues better.  Most importantly, you can help make history by giving young people here the right to Vote at 16!
